About Living in the Country
We’ve all migrated from Toronto to rural southwestern Ontario. Our experiences can give you a glimpse into country life in Ontario. We’re three very different people with different backgrounds who have all embraced living in this part of Canada after living in Toronto.
For Megan and John a house in Priceville - near Flesherton and Durham in Grey County - is a weekend retreat from the urban hustle and bustle. For Jim, it’s a move back to a schoolhouse near Dungannon where he grew up. A retirement choice. For Sam it’s a Canadian home away from her home in rural France, somewhere she can spend chunks of time.
Jim Reed
Jim is an award winning journalist who retired to his roots in Huron County. He writes for The Bruce County Marketplace as well as two of his own blogs, Reed Writes and Nuclear Notebook, as well as writing for Living in the Country. In his spare time he tends his garden and gets in wood for the winter when he isn't exploring. Obviously retirement doesn't mean slowing down! You can reach Jim at jim@fortheloveofwork.com.
Megan Mooney
Megan spent most of her life - except for childhood sojourns in Zambia and Barbados - in Guelph. Finally career called and she moved to Toronto. She and her partner John bought a house in Priceville and they spend every weekend there. As well as writing for Living in the Country and maintaining a personal blog, Megan writes theatre reviews for BlogTO. You can reach Megan at megan@fortheloveofwork.com.
Sam Mooney
Sam's first move to the country was to a tiny village in the south of France. From Toronto. She lives in cottage on a wine domaine in the Corbieres and spends time in Canada when she gets homesick. She develops websites and writes - sporadically - in her blog Aude France. Sort of like Living in the Country but set in the Aude. She is related to Megan.
