Meaford - 100-Mile Market

100-mile diet encourages 100-mile market in Meaford

An interesting story in the Star about the new 100-mile market in Meaford. Everything available at the market is produced within 100 miles of Meaford.

It's open all year on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 55 Trowbridge St. W. in Meaford.

Ontariotomatoes I haven't read The 100-Mile Diet: A Year of Local Eating yet but I'm going to.  One of the things I found frustrating this summer in Priceville was finding local farm produce.  It could be that there just aren't farm gate stands in that part of Grey County.  Or I wasn't looking in the right places.

The market in Meaford is definitely going to be on my itinerary next time I'm in Priceville.  The only thing is, Meaford is 50 km from Priceville, about 30 miles.  I like the idea of eating food that is produced locally, of supporting local farmers.  I'm just not sure about driving 50 km to buy it.

There are probably other ways to access the food.  It might be worth compiling a directory of local producers and setting up other 100-mile markets in Grey County.  Or setting up some kind of co-op.  Maybe there already is one.

I found a directory - Foodlink Grey and Bruce

Well....you have done everyone a great service by calling this to our attention...it's obviously a long-overdue idea. I'd like to read the book too.

Just taking a break from my e-duties...nice post.
